This has been a special week, but all weeks should be special anyway. We started visualization exercises as we progress in the Haanel’s book. We continue reading and adding exercises to help us influence our subconscious mind. As an avid reader, I am also reading The Millionaire Next door, that I finished about a week ago, and now I started “The Gap and the Gain by Dan Sullivan.
He presents a concept that made me think hard and it is that we are taught to measure our progress against ideals or goals, looking at how closer we are getting to those goals, but an ideal is not visible, does not exist. This creates a problem, we are always trying to reach something that does not exist and we measure our progress on a possibility, not on a fact.
Dan, also makes a comment on the Declaration of independence where it is stated that we Americans are entitled to Life, Liberty and the pursue of Happiness. If we are in pursue of happiness, it means that we can have it, but we do not have it, so we are always miserable because we do not reflect and accept that we are happy, right where and how we are, but that we can and should pursue happiness. Could it be that reason that the Americans are always looking for the American Dream, that they are always working, and wanting more?
There is nothing wrong with wanting more, it is the reason we have had progress in the world, but if that is the only purpose we live for, then it can lead to anxiety, and unsatisfaction.
So, what is the solution? The solution is to be grateful, to reflect on our past achievements and our present position, and comparing with the position we had or experienced when we started. Measuring our progress against our beginning makes us feel fulfilled, proud and going places. Measuring our progress against our beginning and celebrating our achievements encourage us to continue on the journey.
Back on Haanel, we learned that mental work is what works, but is difficult work, very few people want to do that type of work and it requires a lot of practice to see results. Thought is cause, and it create feelings, and feelings modify our behavior creating action. Action brings the manifestation of our thoughts. I keep reading scroll number 2. It is about the most powerful force in the Universe: Love. We can get anything by giving love no matter we have no skill.
